CRTC Proceeding Link: English | Français

The CRTC launched Telecom Notice of Consultation 2024-318: Making it easier for consumers to shop for Internet services. This consultation explores how plan information can be standardized and simplified, including clear labels for speed, price, reliability, and other service features.

DWCC is participating to ensure that the perspectives and accessibility needs of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing (DDBHH) Canadians are fully addressed.

DWCC’s Contributions Include:

  • Intervention & Reply Submissions calling for mandatory accessibility of plan information across providers

  • Proposals to include ASL, LSQ, and easy-read formats in all consumer-facing materials

  • Advocacy for accountability measures requiring ISPs to provide accurate, accessible, and transparent plan information

DWCC’s Position

DWCC emphasized that Internet plan information must be accessible, truthful, and user-friendly. We urged the Commission to require clear labelling for price, speeds (especially during peak hours), reliability, and service terms. Accessible formats, including ASL and LSQ, must be included to ensure equitable choice for DDBHH Canadians.
